Trophy Girls to Speed Queens

A couple of months back I posted a video and short article about the IZOD IndyCar Series Trophy Girls Playboy shoot.  This, which has become one of my most popular features, led to a series of posts under the title of Trophy Girls.  Being as there are only a handful of true trophy girls to highlight, I have begun to expand to more than just pretty victory lane girls.  I want to profile and feature women in racing.  Drivers, team owners, promoters, public relations representatives, grid girls, moms, etc.  So, in an effort to expand the reach of this column, and to prevent undo discrimination, I am changing the name of this piece to “Speed Queens.”  What do you think?  Much more respectful than “Trophy Girls”.

The first piece for the Speed Queens column is by the Fox Sports Nascar crew over at 3 Wide.  Darrel and the boys pay a little homage to some of the great woman in racing.  Enjoy!

IZOD IndyCar Series Trophy Girl

The IZOD IndyCar Series.  Known for fast cars, tradition, The Brickyard, and sparking personalities on and off track.  Among those personalities are the Trophy Girls.  They are the beautiful women that greet the drivers in the Winner’s Circle, and sometimes escort drivers on the starting grid.  Are the eye-candy to the mostly male viewers and spectators? Yep!  Dressed in IZOD logo emblazoned fire suits, these girls are as important to racing as the Firehawk Tires mascot, but I can’t imagine a race without them.  So, before you hunker down for 250-500 miles of wheel to wheel IndyCar action, take a second to enjoy a little sponsor endorsement from IZOD.
